I National Competition for a Moors & Christians “Al-Mosaquer” march composition Mojácar 2020

The Association of Moors & Christians, “Al-Mosaquer”, who organise the annual fiesta in collaboration with the Mojácar Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) present this competition to promote our historical culture and to create and spread music typical of these fiestas. The creations will be original, exclusive to Mojácar and will become part of our fiesta.

RULES
1. The competition is open to people of all nationalities, whether resident in Spain or not, and who are of legal age.

2. The type of music for this first year’s competition will be a Moorish march.
There are dossiers available with the history and photos of our fiesta for those interested. Contact details in point 7.

3. There will be one prize of €1000
The winning music will be given a title by the Association Al-Mosaquer, and will carry the label of
“Winner of the I national competition for a Moors and Christian “Al-Mosaquer of Mojácar” march competition”.

4. Composers may submit as many works as they wish; they must be original, unpublished and not performed before and must be suitable for the fiesta. Any works that do not meet these requirements will automatically be excluded.

5. The work will be evaluated on its originality and ease of performing in the parades. Annex I covers the instrumental requirements.

6. The works will be presented with 5 copies of the full score (a copy for the conductor) and a copy of each part (partichela) in an envelope carrying a theme/slogan referring to the Fiesta of Moors & Christians. This must also be accompanied by a digital folder (either CD or USB memory stick) that contains a copy of the work in PDF format and an audio file in MIDI or similar format.

The works must not be signed. There must be a second sealed envelope carrying the same theme/slogan name as the first, that contains the identification of the composer with a photocopy of their DNI or passport, address, telephone number, email and the declaration by the composer that this is an original work Annex II

7. The closing date for entries is the 10th of January 2020, and entries should be sent to:

8. Following the closing date the judges will make an initial selection of up to four compositions, which will be considered as the finalists. The judges will publish this finalist choice on 3rd of February 2020 and inform the finalists by email or telephone.

9. The works of the finalists will be performed by the Mojácar Municipal Band at a concert in the Centro de Usos Múltiples on Saturday 2nd of May 2020.
During the concert the judges will announce the winner and present the prize. All finalist composers must attend the concert, if there is force majeure then they must send a representative.
The judging panel will consist of 5 members, 3 from the Association Al-Mosaquer and 2 professional musicians in sound standing.

10. The works that do not win will be returned to the composers, if they so request, in the 60 days after the publication of the winner. After this date they will be destroyed.

11. The winning composer will maintain all legal rights to the works, but will cede to the Association the rights to record and perform them, to store them and for their use in events organised by the Association.
The Association promises to publish the title of the work given by the Association and the label described in point 3 whenever the work is performed or published.

12. By entering the competition you accept the rules and decisions of the judges. Anything not covered by these rules will be dealt with by the judges and Association.
