A weekend of music and theatre in Mojácar

Mojácar brought the curtain down on its autumn theatrical season with the play “Mujeres del Viento”, directed by Adán Torres and starring Sensi Falán, Mercedes Gutiérrez and María Núñez.

Organised by Mojácar Council’s Culture Department in collaboration with Almería Provincial Council, the story surrounds three women who travel the road from Malaga to Almería on foot, fleeing war, injustice, and death.

As this “Ven al Teatro” season now ends, there are other cultural activities in the pipeline, always however, following strict safety and social distancing measures, which have not impaired the success of these performances.

Tonight, Saturday October 24th, the “Gata Brass Band will taking to the stage at the town’s Centro de Usos Múltiples at 9 p.m. with a concert of funk, brass ‘second line’ styles and other ‘grooves’ of Afro-American music which should provide a great evening for all lovers of good music.

The Gata Brass Band is made up of wind instruments including saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and tuba, as well as percussion, that create a New Orleans style. Collaborating with them on the night, with a complementary show, is the “R4M”, breakdance group.

Formed in 2018, the Band regularly brings together a set of musicians from around Almería, including members of the Big Band Clasijazz Swing & Funk. Together, they offer a wide repertoire full of Afro-American rhythms, to which they add their own modern touches.

This weekend of entertainment in Mojácar is hopefully the beginning of a programme of events that the town’s Culture Department is busy planning for this Autumn and Winter
