{"id":16689,"date":"2021-12-14T17:49:21","date_gmt":"2021-12-14T15:49:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mojacar.es\/?p=16689"},"modified":"2021-12-14T17:49:21","modified_gmt":"2021-12-14T15:49:21","slug":"the-catholic-and-anglican-churches-of-mojacar-celebrate-together-the-traditional-christmas-festival-of-nine-lessons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mojacar.es\/en\/the-catholic-and-anglican-churches-of-mojacar-celebrate-together-the-traditional-christmas-festival-of-nine-lessons\/","title":{"rendered":"The Catholic and Anglican Churches of Moj\u00e1car celebrate together the traditional Christmas Festival of Nine Lessons"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p> The protagonists of one of the first acts featured on the 2021 Moj\u00e1car Christmas programme are the two most important churches in the locality\u2019s religious life.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\tThe Festival of Nine Lessons signifies a gathering of the Catholic and Anglican faithful around the reading of Genesis in both languages, as well as an exchange of traditional Christmas carols from both cultures, in which the \u201cEmbrujo Mojaquero\u201d choir took part.<br \/>\n\tThe celebration was officiated by the Moj\u00e1car Santa Mar\u00eda Catholic Church Parish Priest, Victor Manuel Fernandez, and by the Costa de Almer\u00eda Anglican Reverend, Vincent Oram, from the San Pascual Anglican Church, also located in Moj\u00e1car in the area known as Agua en Medio.<br \/>\n\t As is customary for this celebration, Spanish and British faithful, Catholic and Protestant, gathered in the Santa Mar\u00eda Parish Church, to jointly and emotionally celebrate this time of Advent, a prelude to the most important days of the year for the faithful of both communities.<br \/>\n\tAmong the many people in attendance was Moj\u00e1car Mayor, Rosa Mar\u00eda Cano, as well as members of her government team: Safety Councillor Mar\u00eda Luisa P\u00e9rez, Education Councillor Ana Garc\u00eda, and Culture Councillor Raquel Belmonte.<br \/>\n\tThe Anglican tradition of holding the Nine Lessons Festival during Advent dates back to 1880, when the Archbishop of Canterbury designed the service for Christmas Eve in Cornwall in the UK. It\u2019s a service of nine short lessons from the Bible in which the story of the fall of humanity and the promise of the Messiah and the birth of Jesus is usually outlined.<br \/>\n\tThe readings by the faithful begin with the Old Testament. By the hand of the prophet Isaiah, the birth of Jesus is announced, and the apostles Luke, Matthew and John narrate the impact of his birth on the world.
