{"id":8897,"date":"2018-12-05T10:47:15","date_gmt":"2018-12-05T08:47:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mojacar.es\/en\/festival-nueve-lecciones-villancicos-mojacar\/"},"modified":"2018-12-05T18:24:12","modified_gmt":"2018-12-05T16:24:12","slug":"nine-lessons-and-christmas-carols-in-mojacar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mojacar.es\/en\/nine-lessons-and-christmas-carols-in-mojacar\/","title":{"rendered":"Moj\u00e1car\u00b4s Catholic and Anglican Churches join together for the Nine Lessons and Christmas Carols."},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Both Moj\u00e1car\u2019s Catholic and Anglican Churches recently held their traditional Festival of the Nine Lessons, as one of the first of many events planned for the Christmas period.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The annual joint event between faiths brings together the communities, which includes the readings from Genesis in Spanish and English, along with traditional carols from both cultures with the participation of Moj\u00e1car\u2019s Esc\u00e1lamo and Rociero Embrujo Mojaquero Choirs.<\/p>\n<p>The celebration was officiated by the Catholic Priest of the Santa Mar\u00eda Parish Church, Miguel Jos\u00e9 Esteban Jerez, along with Reverend Vincent Oram from the San Pascual Anglican Church.<br \/>\nAlso present at the service were; Moj\u00e1car\u2019s Mayor, Rosmari Cano, Mar\u00eda Luisa P\u00e9rez, Councillor to the Mayor&#8217;s Office, Raquel Belmonte, Councillor for Culture and Ana Garc\u00eda, Councillor for Education.<\/p>\n<p>The old Anglican Advent tradition of The Nine Lessons and Christmas Carols dates way back to 1880, when Edward White Benson, Archbishop of Canterbury, created the pre-Christmas event in Cornwall which then went on to be a popular event throughout the world. The Nine Lessons begin with Genesis and end with the Gospel of Luke, following the story of man\u2019s fall, the promise of a new covenant and the coming of a Messiah culminating in the birth of Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the readings of the Nine Lessons, interspersed with traditional carols and choral music, have become an Advent tradition in services around the world, just as it is in Moj\u00e1car.
