{"id":9031,"date":"2019-01-03T19:26:53","date_gmt":"2019-01-03T17:26:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mojacar.es\/en\/?p=9031"},"modified":"2019-01-03T19:26:53","modified_gmt":"2019-01-03T17:26:53","slug":"mojacar-rings-in-the-new-year-with-traditional-fiesta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mojacar.es\/en\/mojacar-rings-in-the-new-year-with-traditional-fiesta\/","title":{"rendered":"Moj\u00e1car rings in the New Year with a traditional multicultural Fiesta"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p> Moj\u00e1car bade farewell to 2018 and welcomed in the New Year at the Plaza del Front\u00f3n with the customary twelve grapes, an event attended by a large crowd of townspeople who gather every year in the Old Town.  <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>This year, over 500 people quickly ate their traditional good luck grapes, taken one at a time to the midnight bells of the Santa Mar\u00eda Church, with the wish to fill all homes with happiness in 2019.<br \/>\nMoj\u00e1car Council\u2019s Festivities Department organized the party for this special occasion, as it does every year, with complimentary grapes and cava for everyone handed out by the Mayor, Rosmari Cano and her Government team.  With family, friends and colleagues, she joined in with the swallowing of the grapes, as she always does, to welcome in the New Year with the people of the town.<br \/>\nEvery December 31st sees a greater attendance, swelled by the many townsfolk of other nationalities and, although mainly British, French and German, there were Moj\u00e1car residents also representing many other countries.<br \/>\nThis unique Spanish tradition of eating twelve grapes as the clock chimes at midnight is an immensely popular and almost unmissable event that is enjoyed on the magical night of San Silvestre.
