{"id":9305,"date":"2019-04-15T08:25:14","date_gmt":"2019-04-15T06:25:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mojacar.es\/en\/la-procesion-de-la-borriquilla-da-comienzo-a-la-semana-santa-en-mojacar\/"},"modified":"2019-04-15T17:40:12","modified_gmt":"2019-04-15T15:40:12","slug":"mojacar-begins-holy-week-procession-donkey-palm-sunday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mojacar.es\/en\/mojacar-begins-holy-week-procession-donkey-palm-sunday\/","title":{"rendered":"Moj\u00e1car begins Holy Week with the Procession of the Donkey on Palm Sunday."},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Holy week started in Moj\u00e1car on Palm Sunday with the traditional Procession of the Donkey, with numerous people of the town, as well as visitors, joining in the live representation of Jesus entering Nazareth, before the events of the \u00b4Passion, Death and Resurrection\u00b4 as written in the gospels.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\tAt 11 a.m. the group made its way up the hill from the Fuente to the Santa Mar\u00eda Parish Church, accompanied by the Municipal Band, which was followed by the blessing of the Palms and Olives and Holy Mass.<br \/>\nOn Monday 15th at 9 p.m. there will be a concert of Sacred Music performed by the Municipal Band at the Church, accompanied by the local Rociero Choir \u201cEmbrujo Mojaquero.\u201d<br \/>\nThe following day, on Tuesday, the Stations of the Cross depart the Church at 8 p.m. and is carried through the streets of Moj\u00e1car Pueblo on the shoulders of the women bearers.<br \/>\nAt 7.30 p.m. on Holy Thursday, there is another Holy Mass to celebrate the Last Supper and the Washing of the Feet, followed by the procession from the Church at 10.30 p.m. which takes the Nazarene and the Virgin of Sorrows through the streets.<br \/>\nThe beautiful ornate thrones (tronos) with their sculpted images (pasos) have had to be adapted to suit the special characteristics of the locality and the narrow, winding streets which make their passage especially spectacular.
