2017 Mojácar Triathlon Results
Sunday, May 28, saw the 5th annual Mojácar Cross Triathlon, a qualifying event in the Andalucian championship.
The Triathlon was organized by Mojácar Council in collaboration with the Federación Andaluza de Triatlón and, coordinated by the sports event company Almeritair Sport.
The swim had to be suspended due to the sea conditions but instead, the scheduled 6 kilometre run was increased to 10k by the organization. There was also a 20-kilometre cycle race that ran from Macenas beach to the Manaca chiringuito on “sombrerico” beach, then up to the hamlet of Sopalmo and back to Macenas.
Bernardo Rubio, from El Ejido Triathlon Club, was the overall winner with a time of 1 hour and 33 minutes. In second position was Kilian García Rodríguez frrom Club CTR 360 with a time of 1 hour and 35 minutes. Juan Manuél Tejada Martínez, was classified third overall and first in the local competition.
The first to finish in the women’s category was Elena Cavas Olmos, from the Mandareche Club Cartagena, with a time of 2 hours and 18 minutes.
Around 60 athletes competed in Mojácar’s annual round of the Andalucian triathlon championship and the event passed without incident, except for the cancellation of the aquatic stage.
The prizes were presented by Ana García, Mojácar Sports Councillor, who thanked all competitors for their participation as well as all members of the supporting organization and volunteers who made the event possible. She also praised the safety and security team for their impeccable cooperation, which included; 20 Civil Protection volunteers from Mojácar, Turre and Carboneras, two mobile ambulances and a doctor, ATS volunteers, the Red Cross, Local Police and Guardia Civil.
