Mojácar Council, continuing with the Sustainable Mojácar campaign, is this weekend launching a free programme to promote sport, healthy habits and the enjoyment of the municipality’s natural spaces.

Mojácar Council begins its Winter Activities programme this Saturday, 7th of November, for the third year running. The initiative will offer outdoor sports and leisure activities every weekend until next May.

The programme starts with three free activities aimed at different ages and publics: hiking, yoga by the sea and children’s roller skating, making the most of the climate and natural spaces that Mojácar offers during the autumn and winter months.

The first event takes place on Saturday 7th of November at 9.30am, with a circular hiking route around Marina de la Torre. The 9-kilometre, moderate difficulty route, will take approximately three and a half hours. Participants are recommended to bring water, a cap and comfortable footwear.

To take part in this activity advance registration is required, which can be done until Friday 6th of November at 11am, calling the number 950 615 025.

Also this Saturday, at 11am, children can enjoy a roller-skating session in front of the Parque de las Familias, an activity designed to encourage physical activity and outdoor fun.

The programme continues on Sunday 8th of November, at 11am, with a yoga session on Descargador beach, an opportunity to exercise and enjoy the Mediterranean surroundings. No advance booking is required for this activity.

The Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García Cerdá, highlighted the importance of promoting initiatives that allow people to enjoy the municipality all year round, promoting an active and healthy lifestyle among residents and visitors alike.

With this programme, Mojácar Council reaffirms its commitment to promoting sport, wellbeing and the sustainable use of public and natural spaces, offering free leisure options during the months of lower tourist numbers.

The activities will continue on weekends until May, with further events and information to be announced through Mojácar Council’s official channels.

The competition, organised by the “Al-Mosaquer” General Association of Moors and Christians in collaboration with Mojácar Council, will be dedicated to the Mora Aljama Mudéjar Comparsa and will remain open until the 19th of February 2027.

Mojácar presents a new edition of the “Al-Mosaquer” National Moors and Christians Marches Composition Competition, an initiative now in its fifth edition that aims to foster musical talent and expand the repertoire of one of the municipality’s most emblematic festivals.

This year, the competition will be dedicated to the Mora Aljama Mudéjar Comparsa, for which participants must compose an original, previously unpublished march. The competition offers 1,800 euros in prizes, with 1,300 euros for the winning work, provided by the Association, and 500 euros for the runner-up, awarded by Mojácar Council.

The Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García Cerdá, has highlighted the importance of this initiative: “Moors and Christians is part of our identity and one of Mojácar’s most emblematic celebrations. This competition allows us to promote our festivities beyond the municipality and to recognise the talent of those who help make them even greater through music.”

The Culture Councillor, Noemí Linares Ortiz, encouraged composers to take part: “This competition is an opportunity to discover new musical works and to continue enriching the repertoire that accompanies our comparsas during the parades.”

Deadlines and celebration of the final

The deadline for submitting compositions is 19th of February 2027. Entries are open to adults of any nationality, provided their works meet the requirements established in the rules.

A specialist jury will select up to four finalist compositions, which will be announced on 15th of March 2027. The grand final will take place on Saturday 8th of May 2027, with a concert by the Mojácar Municipal Music Band, during which the winners will be announced and the prizes awarded.

With this fifth edition, Mojácar continues promoting initiatives that highlight the importance of its celebrations and encourage the participation of composers in the development of its musical heritage.

Mojácar will be at the 2026 Andalucia Tourism Awards after having being selected from among the candidates presented from across Andalucia in the category “Andalucia Tourism Award for Coastal Tourist Destination of Excellence“, a recognition which highlights the tourism model developed by the municipality and its commitment to quality, sustainability, and continuous improvement.

The Andalucia Tourism Awards ceremony will take place on the 24th of September at 7.30pm in the Casa Colón Auditorium in Huelva, bringing together representatives from the Andalucian tourism sector.

Mojácar Council has expressed its satisfaction and pride that the municipality has been selected in a category designed to recognise those destinations on the Andalucia coast which promote a tourism model based on sustainability, social cohesion, the defining values of Andalucian identity, and the pursuit of continuous quality improvement.

The Mayor of Mojácar, Mayor Francisco García Cerdá, has highlighted that “it is a source of immense pride for Mojácar to find ourselves among the destinations selected from throughout Andalucia. Being present at awards of this significance is a recognition of the work being done to advance toward higher-quality, sustainable tourism that respects our identity.”

García Cerdá further noted that “Mojácar has a well-established tourism identity, but our aim is to keep evolving and improving. This recognition encourages us to carry on working so that residents and visitors find a destination that is increasingly well-maintained, accessible, sustainable, and prepared to face the challenges of the tourism of the future.”

The candidacy presented by Mojácar showcases the work carried out by the municipality in various areas linked to tourism, among them sustainability and the continuous improvement of quality, innovation, accessibility and inclusivity, tourism promotion, the adoption of new technologies, and the preservation of the destination’s defining values.

The Andalucia Tourism Awards aim to publicly recognise the meritorious and important work of individuals and public or private entities which have contributed to highlighting the quality and excellence of Andalucia as a tourism destination.

For the Local Council, the selection of Mojácar from among the candidates in this edition represents a significant backing for the path taken by the municipality and an opportunity to represent Almería province and showcase, within the Andalucian tourism sector, the potential of one of its main coastal destinations.

Mojácar will attend the event on the 24th of September with the pride of representing Almería tourism and with the commitment of continuing to work toward a tourism model that combines quality, sustainability, innovation, and identity.

Mojácar will once again experience one of its most special nights this Saturday 19th of September with the celebration of the 2026 Night of the Candles (Noche de las Velas), a now well-established event on the municipality’s calendar which every year brings together residents and visitors to gaze at a unique and especially magical image of the historic old town.

As night falls, the usual lights of Mojácar Pueblo will give way to thousands of candles distributed around streets, squares, corners, homes and businesses, creating a trail of light that will highlight Mojacar’s architecture and the characteristic white of the facades. It is a tradition where the involvement of residents and business owners plays an essential part, and which for a few hours turns the old town into a unique setting. In previous editions, this staging has featured between 7,000 and 8,000 candles.

The celebration invites people to stroll around Mojácar at a leisurely pace and discover its streets under a completely different kind of illumination. Live music has also been one of the characteristic elements of the Night of the Candles, with performances scattered around the village’s different squares and locations, that accompany visitors along the route.

The Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García Cerdá, has highlighted the special character this event has acquired for the municipality: “The Night of the Candles allows us to see Mojácar in a completely different way. It is a night on which our village shows its full beauty, and on which residents, business owners, and visitors all make up part of the same celebration. We want everyone joining us this Saturday to enjoy Mojácar and its streets, and an experience that every year manages to surprise us.”

Given the expected large crowds, Mojácar Council has organised a special public transport service with the aim of facilitating travel to Mojácar Pueblo and ensuring more comfortable and orderly access.

The special bus service will start at 6pm, while the last bus down from the village is scheduled for 2.45am. A special round-trip ticket will cost 3 euros; hence the Local Council recommends using public transport and avoiding the use of private vehicles wherever possible. This system follows the model established in previous years to connect the coastal area with the old town.

The 2026 Night of the Candles will once again offer an opportunity to rediscover Mojácar from a different perspective: strolling through its streets bathed in the warm glow of candlelight, soaking up the atmosphere, and sharing one of the nights that has become one of the municipality’s most recognisable images.

Mojácar will once again turn off its electric lights this Saturday to allow the candles to illuminate a night made for enjoyment, sharing, and making memories.

On the 11th, 12th and 13th of September Mojácar hosts a new National Graffiti League event, which will be held at the Mojácar Football Ground, and will bring to the municipality one of the most representative forms of contemporary urban art.

On Friday the 11th and Saturday the 12th, from 9am to 2pm and from 4pm to 8.30pm, the public can visit the venue to see up close the qualifying artists at work: Nauni69, Konestilo, Danklabara, Eslicer, Daes, Amek Uno, Cien, Badi Coloreando, Taser, and Ñuku.

This event will offer a chance to watch the creative process in person and experience graffiti in a different way, transforming the Mojácar Football Ground into a space dedicated to creativity and urban art throughout the weekend.

The programme will also include an activity specially designed for children. On Saturday the 12th at 12.30pm, there will be a children’s graffiti workshop, which will offer boys and girls the opportunity to explore this art form and experiment with its most creative side. Music will be a feature throughout the weekend, rounding out a programme that will conclude on Sunday the 13th at 12.30pm with the competition’s awards ceremony.

With this event, Mojácar adds to its programming an initiative that brings new forms of artistic expression to residents and visitors, and which turns the municipality into a meeting point for artists and graffiti enthusiasts over three days.

The event is organised by Mojácar Council and sponsored by El Corte Inglés, Mission, Kappa, and Montana Colors (MTN).

The Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García Cerdá, has highlighted the importance of continuing to incorporate diverse offerings into the municipality’s programme of events. “We want Mojácar to also be a space open to new forms of artistic expression. The National Graffiti League allows us to bring urban art closer to residents and visitors, and at the same time offer a different activity where the public will be able to enjoy the artists’ creative process in person,” he stated.

García Cerdá also highlighted the value of the children’s workshop: “It is an opportunity for the youngest ones to explore this discipline from a creative and participatory perspective. We want them to enjoy themselves, to experiment, and to discover the different forms of expression which art offers, at the same time as learning the importance of respecting their surroundings and understanding the appropriate spaces for practicing graffiti.”

Finally, he invited residents and visitors to head to the Mojácar Playa Football Ground over the weekend “to see the artists’ work, enjoy the atmosphere, and experience up close a different competition that, over three days, will have Mojácar as its setting.

The day continued with the traditional children’s ribbon races, filling the afternoon with excitement, music and a sense of community

Mojácar Council opened the new Family Park (“Parque de las Familias”), this Saturday, a space designed to become a meeting point where the municipality’s children, senior citizens and families can come together and enjoy themselves.

The opening brought together numerous local residents and visitors who wanted to join the Local Council in inaugurating this new space, designed specifically for people to enjoy time together and to continue making Mojácar an increasingly united, friendly and welcoming municipality for families.

Beyond the opening of a new park, the afternoon provided a particularly heart-warming sight: that of young and old sharing the same space, enjoying themselves together and filling it with life right from the start.

The Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García Cerdá, highlighted the importance of continuing to create places dedicated to community life and residents’ well-being.

“This park was created with a very simple, yet very important purpose: for families to have a place to meet, where children can play and be children, and where we can continue to make memories together. Seeing it so full of life today is, without a doubt, the best way to open it,” he commented.

Following the inauguration, the day continued with one of the most heart-warming events of the patron saint festivities in honour of Saint Augustine: the children’s ribbon ceremony.

The boys and girls then took centre stage on an afternoon filled with excitement, smiles and tradition. A celebration that once again brought together different generations and which was accompanied by the Municipal Music Band, adding rhythm and excitement to a particularly family-oriented day.

The children’s ribbon race is one of those traditions that remains in the memory from generation to generation and which every year once again fills the streets of Mojácar with shared moments.

Mojácar Council would like to thank all the families, residents and visitors who took part in the day’s events, and in particular all the children who made it possible with their enthusiasm, as well as the Municipal Music Band for accompanying and enhancing such a special afternoon.

An afternoon to inaugurate a new space, to keep our traditions alive and, above all, continue to create family memories in Mojácar.

The President and the Mayor visited the 7,200m2 plot in Altos del Albardinal where a nursery school and parking will be built, and where a library, coworking space, municipal archive and a performance venue are planned for the future.

The agreement between the two institutions includes a joint investment of €1,500,000 to make this first phase a reality in 2027.

The Almería Provincial Council and Mojácar Council have signed an agreement to launch a key project for the municipality: the “Creation of the educational and cultural space (Phase 1).” The Almería Provincial Council President and the Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García, made an official visit to the municipal plot of more than 7,200 square metres located in the Altos del Albardinar area, in ​​Mojácar Playa, where this new multifunctional complex will be built.

The Almería Provincial Council President underlined the supramunicipal institution’s commitment to backing key infrastructure projects in the province’s municipalities: “Today we reaffirm the alliance between the Almería Provincial Council and the Local Council to make a key project for the municipality a reality: the creation of the new Educational and Cultural Space. For the Provincial Council, supporting investments that improve public services is a priority.”

“That’s why we’re contributing €500,000 to this project, channelled through a collaboration agreement that will facilitate an initial 50% advance to expedite the start of the works. It will be a comprehensive space for education, culture, and community life. We continue working together for the development of Mojácar and the whole province.”

During the tour of the land, the Mojácar Mayor, Francisco García, highlighted the positive impact this project will have for local residents: “We are in the Altos del Albardinar area, on a plot of more than 7,200 square meters that will soon be completely transformed for the families of Mojácar. It’s a shared effort with a total investment of €1,435,000, of which the Local Council is contributing €935,000 to turn a long-standing demand of our residents into a reality.”

“In this first phase, we will build a top-notch Early Childhood Education Centre, equipped with a parking area and the appropriate landscaping of the entire exterior site. An essential facility to respond to the growth of Mojácar Playa.”

Financing and Timeline

The agreement between the two administrations establishes a base budget for the tender of €1,435,000. The financing is distributed between a contribution of €935,000 from Mojácar Council and a €500,000 contribution from the Provincial Council.

To speed up the start of the works, the Provincial Council will make an advance payment of 50% of its subsidy after the signing of the agreement, paying the remaining 50% following the submission of the project justification report. The agreement will remain in effect until the 31st of August 2027, guaranteeing that this first phase will be a reality in that year.

A project with a vision for the future

This first phase lays the foundation for an area that will transform Mojácar socially and culturally. As the Mayor of Mojácar explained, the complex will continue to be developed in subsequent stages: “What’s more, this first phase is just the beginning. This major cultural and educational complex will in the future house the new library, a coworking space, the municipal archive and a large performance space.”

 The initiative, part of the Sustainable Tourism Plan at Destination (PSTD), combines artificial intelligence, universal accessibility and architecture that is true to the local identity.

MOJÁCAR, 12th of August 2026 — Mojácar Council today inaugurated the new headquarters of its Municipal Tourist Office, strategically located at the entrance to Plaza Nueva, the heart of the historic old town.

This initiative has been developed as part of Mojácar’s Sustainable Tourism Plan at Destination (PSTD), transforming the space into a modern, highly technological and inclusive visitor information point for the approximately 50,000 visitors the office receives a year.

The design of the new premises stands out for its renewed image that pays tribute to the locality’s traditional architecture. Its interior design incorporates elements with rounded forms, white and blue colours, as well as decorative details that are distinctly characteristic of Mojácar.

In addition to its privileged location, the space offers visitors spectacular direct views of the Mojácar “La Vieja” (old Mojácar) archaeological site, connecting the tourist information service with the municipality’s historic origins.

In functional terms, the facilities stand out for their commitment to universal accessibility and innovation:

• Full inclusion: The premises is 100% accessible and has a hearing loop for people with hearing difficulties and a Braille printer for producing documentation adapted for people with visual impairments.
• Technology and Smart Tourism: It is equipped with interactive self-service information devices, audio guides and access to the Cicerone Through this tool, tourists can create personalised itineraries based on their interests (heritage, history, beaches, sport or events), as well as factors such as the length of their stay and their traveller profile.
• Sustainability: Both visitors and the tourism staff providing the service can send all the information tailored to each user directly to their personal devices in digital format to reduce paper use and the carbon footprint.

“This office represents the model of tourism we want for Mojácar: innovative, accessible and deeply proud of its roots. We are not only providing the old town with a visitor centre worthy of our destination, we are connecting visitors with our history from the first moment, thanks to the views of Mojácar La Vieja,” commented Francisco García Cerdá, Mayor of Mojácar, during the opening ceremony, which was attended by Francisco Góngora, Junta de Andalucía Government Delegate, Juan José Alonso, Provincial Delegate for Culture and Heritage, José Manuel López Suárez, Tourism Delegate for Granada and Almería, and Ana Lourdes Ramírez, Provincial Deputy.

This initiative strengthens the municipality’s visitor services network together with the new zonal tourist information point in Mojácar Playa – located at the Parque Comercial intersection and also implemented under the PSTD – consolidating the village’s commitment to tourism excellence and modernisation.

The Art Centre will be the setting, on the 18th of August, of an encounter with the literature, memory and traditions of the Land of Mojácar.

Mojácar Council, as promoter of the initiative, invites residents and visitors to attend the presentation of the book “El Cuentacuentos de la Axarquía” (The Storyteller of the Axarquía), a work by the writer Pepe de Piedad, published by Editorial Arráez, which will take place on Tuesday 18th of August at 8pm at the Mojácar Art Centre.

The publication brings together stories, legends, and narratives inspired by the Land of Mojácar and its surroundings, preserving the oral heritage and the traditions that have formed part of the identity of this region for generations. A work that invites the reader to explore, through its pages, the popular imagination and cultural heritage of a land shaped by its history.

The presentation will be an opportunity to learn first-hand about the book’s creation process, to share impressions with the author and to enjoy an evening dedicated to literature, collective memory, and the value of stories that have been passed down from generation to generation.

Through this event, Mojácar Council continues to promote cultural initiatives that encourage reading, highlight the value of the municipality’s intangible cultural heritage, and make culture accessible to residents and visitors.

Admission is free until the venue reaches capacity.

Mojácar Council has concluded the first month of its Summer School and Sports Summer with a very positive balance, following several weeks in which dozens of children from the municipality enjoyed a broad programme of educational, sports, and leisure activities, designed to facilitate work-life balance for families during the summer period.

Throughout July, participants enjoyed creative workshops, games, educational and sports activities, as well as numerous other offerings that turned the summer into a space for learning, togetherness and fun.

One of the main new features of this year’s programme was the launch of Mojácar’s first Inclusive Summer School, an initiative that provides specialised attention to children with specific needs, reaffirming the Local Authority’s commitment to equality of opportunities and an accessible and inclusive leisure model for everyone.

The Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García Cerdá, underlined that “the Summer School and the Sports Summer have become established as two essential services for our municipality’s families. As well as offering children a summer full of enriching experiences, they facilitate work-life balance during these months.”

With the arrival of August, the Local Council will continue to offer both programmes with new activities and offerings to continue providing an active, educational summer, adapted to the needs of Mojácar families.

The Summer School activities (mornings) are made possible thanks to the Almería Provincial Council’s Summer School Programme and a grant from the Co-Responsibility Plan.

Meanwhile, the Sports Summer activities (afternoons) are funded by the Junta de Andalucía’s Regional Ministry for Employment, Business and Self-Employment, through the grant for work-life balance.

With this initiative, Mojácar Council reaffirms its commitment to offering quality educational and sporting leisure activities, at the same time as promoting work-life balance for families and inclusion as fundamental pillars of its municipal action.
