Mojácar opens the Family Park, a new space to share
The day continued with the traditional children’s ribbon races, filling the afternoon with excitement, music and a sense of community
Mojácar Council opened the new Family Park (“Parque de las Familias”), this Saturday, a space designed to become a meeting point where the municipality’s children, senior citizens and families can come together and enjoy themselves.
The opening brought together numerous local residents and visitors who wanted to join the Local Council in inaugurating this new space, designed specifically for people to enjoy time together and to continue making Mojácar an increasingly united, friendly and welcoming municipality for families.
Beyond the opening of a new park, the afternoon provided a particularly heart-warming sight: that of young and old sharing the same space, enjoying themselves together and filling it with life right from the start.
The Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García Cerdá, highlighted the importance of continuing to create places dedicated to community life and residents’ well-being.
“This park was created with a very simple, yet very important purpose: for families to have a place to meet, where children can play and be children, and where we can continue to make memories together. Seeing it so full of life today is, without a doubt, the best way to open it,” he commented.
Following the inauguration, the day continued with one of the most heart-warming events of the patron saint festivities in honour of Saint Augustine: the children’s ribbon ceremony.
The boys and girls then took centre stage on an afternoon filled with excitement, smiles and tradition. A celebration that once again brought together different generations and which was accompanied by the Municipal Music Band, adding rhythm and excitement to a particularly family-oriented day.
The children’s ribbon race is one of those traditions that remains in the memory from generation to generation and which every year once again fills the streets of Mojácar with shared moments.
Mojácar Council would like to thank all the families, residents and visitors who took part in the day’s events, and in particular all the children who made it possible with their enthusiasm, as well as the Municipal Music Band for accompanying and enhancing such a special afternoon.

The Provincial Council joins forces with Mojácar to develop and create a space dedicated to Education and Culture
The President and the Mayor visited the 7,200m2 plot in Altos del Albardinal where a nursery school and parking will be built, and where a library, coworking space, municipal archive and a performance venue are planned for the future.
The agreement between the two institutions includes a joint investment of €1,500,000 to make this first phase a reality in 2027.

The Almería Provincial Council and Mojácar Council have signed an agreement to launch a key project for the municipality: the “Creation of the educational and cultural space (Phase 1).” The Almería Provincial Council President and the Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García, made an official visit to the municipal plot of more than 7,200 square metres located in the Altos del Albardinar area, in Mojácar Playa, where this new multifunctional complex will be built.
The Almería Provincial Council President underlined the supramunicipal institution’s commitment to backing key infrastructure projects in the province’s municipalities: “Today we reaffirm the alliance between the Almería Provincial Council and the Local Council to make a key project for the municipality a reality: the creation of the new Educational and Cultural Space. For the Provincial Council, supporting investments that improve public services is a priority.”
“That’s why we’re contributing €500,000 to this project, channelled through a collaboration agreement that will facilitate an initial 50% advance to expedite the start of the works. It will be a comprehensive space for education, culture, and community life. We continue working together for the development of Mojácar and the whole province.”
During the tour of the land, the Mojácar Mayor, Francisco García, highlighted the positive impact this project will have for local residents: “We are in the Altos del Albardinar area, on a plot of more than 7,200 square meters that will soon be completely transformed for the families of Mojácar. It’s a shared effort with a total investment of €1,435,000, of which the Local Council is contributing €935,000 to turn a long-standing demand of our residents into a reality.”
“In this first phase, we will build a top-notch Early Childhood Education Centre, equipped with a parking area and the appropriate landscaping of the entire exterior site. An essential facility to respond to the growth of Mojácar Playa.”
Financing and Timeline
The agreement between the two administrations establishes a base budget for the tender of €1,435,000. The financing is distributed between a contribution of €935,000 from Mojácar Council and a €500,000 contribution from the Provincial Council.
To speed up the start of the works, the Provincial Council will make an advance payment of 50% of its subsidy after the signing of the agreement, paying the remaining 50% following the submission of the project justification report. The agreement will remain in effect until the 31st of August 2027, guaranteeing that this first phase will be a reality in that year.
A project with a vision for the future
This first phase lays the foundation for an area that will transform Mojácar socially and culturally. As the Mayor of Mojácar explained, the complex will continue to be developed in subsequent stages: “What’s more, this first phase is just the beginning. This major cultural and educational complex will in the future house the new library, a coworking space, the municipal archive and a large performance space.”

MOJÁCAR, 12th of August 2026 — Mojácar Council today inaugurated the new headquarters of its Municipal Tourist Office, strategically located at the entrance to Plaza Nueva, the heart of the historic old town.
This initiative has been developed as part of Mojácar’s Sustainable Tourism Plan at Destination (PSTD), transforming the space into a modern, highly technological and inclusive visitor information point for the approximately 50,000 visitors the office receives a year.
The design of the new premises stands out for its renewed image that pays tribute to the locality’s traditional architecture. Its interior design incorporates elements with rounded forms, white and blue colours, as well as decorative details that are distinctly characteristic of Mojácar.
In addition to its privileged location, the space offers visitors spectacular direct views of the Mojácar “La Vieja” (old Mojácar) archaeological site, connecting the tourist information service with the municipality’s historic origins.
In functional terms, the facilities stand out for their commitment to universal accessibility and innovation:
- Full inclusion: The premises is 100% accessible and has a hearing loop for people with hearing difficulties and a Braille printer for producing documentation adapted for people with visual impairments.
- Technology and Smart Tourism: It is equipped with interactive self-service information devices, audio guides and access to the Cicerone Through this tool, tourists can create personalised itineraries based on their interests (heritage, history, beaches, sport or events), as well as factors such as the length of their stay and their traveller profile.
- Sustainability: Both visitors and the tourism staff providing the service can send all the information tailored to each user directly to their personal devices in digital format to reduce paper use and the carbon footprint.
“This office represents the model of tourism we want for Mojácar: innovative, accessible and deeply proud of its roots. We are not only providing the old town with a visitor centre worthy of our destination, we are connecting visitors with our history from the first moment, thanks to the views of Mojácar La Vieja,” commented Francisco García Cerdá, Mayor of Mojácar, during the opening ceremony, which was attended by Francisco Góngora, Junta de Andalucía Government Delegate, Juan José Alonso, Provincial Delegate for Culture and Heritage, José Manuel López Suárez, Tourism Delegate for Granada and Almería, and Ana Lourdes Ramírez, Provincial Deputy.
This initiative strengthens the municipality’s visitor services network together with the new zonal tourist information point in Mojácar Playa – located at the Parque Comercial intersection and also implemented under the PSTD – consolidating the village’s commitment to tourism excellence and modernisation.

Mojácar hosts the presentation of the book The Storyteller of the Axarquía, by Pepe de Piedad
The Art Centre will be the setting, on the 18th of August, of an encounter with the literature, memory and traditions of the Land of Mojácar.
Mojácar Council, as promoter of the initiative, invites residents and visitors to attend the presentation of the book “El Cuentacuentos de la Axarquía” (The Storyteller of the Axarquía), a work by the writer Pepe de Piedad, published by Editorial Arráez, which will take place on Tuesday 18th of August at 8pm at the Mojácar Art Centre.
The publication brings together stories, legends, and narratives inspired by the Land of Mojácar and its surroundings, preserving the oral heritage and the traditions that have formed part of the identity of this region for generations. A work that invites the reader to explore, through its pages, the popular imagination and cultural heritage of a land shaped by its history.
The presentation will be an opportunity to learn first-hand about the book’s creation process, to share impressions with the author and to enjoy an evening dedicated to literature, collective memory, and the value of stories that have been passed down from generation to generation.
Through this event, Mojácar Council continues to promote cultural initiatives that encourage reading, highlight the value of the municipality’s intangible cultural heritage, and make culture accessible to residents and visitors.

Mojácar's Summer School and Sports Summer end July with a very positive balance and welcome an August full of activities
Mojácar Council has concluded the first month of its Summer School and Sports Summer with a very positive balance, following several weeks in which dozens of children from the municipality enjoyed a broad programme of educational, sports, and leisure activities, designed to facilitate work-life balance for families during the summer period.
Throughout July, participants enjoyed creative workshops, games, educational and sports activities, as well as numerous other offerings that turned the summer into a space for learning, togetherness and fun.
One of the main new features of this year’s programme was the launch of Mojácar’s first Inclusive Summer School, an initiative that provides specialised attention to children with specific needs, reaffirming the Local Authority’s commitment to equality of opportunities and an accessible and inclusive leisure model for everyone.
The Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García Cerdá, underlined that “the Summer School and the Sports Summer have become established as two essential services for our municipality’s families. As well as offering children a summer full of enriching experiences, they facilitate work-life balance during these months.”
With the arrival of August, the Local Council will continue to offer both programmes with new activities and offerings to continue providing an active, educational summer, adapted to the needs of Mojácar families.
The Summer School activities (mornings) are made possible thanks to the Almería Provincial Council’s Summer School Programme and a grant from the Co-Responsibility Plan.
Meanwhile, the Sports Summer activities (afternoons) are funded by the Junta de Andalucía’s Regional Ministry for Employment, Business and Self-Employment, through the grant for work-life balance.
With this initiative, Mojácar Council reaffirms its commitment to offering quality educational and sporting leisure activities, at the same time as promoting work-life balance for families and inclusion as fundamental pillars of its municipal action.

Mojácar competes this summer for Ecovidrio’s Green Flag for Sustainability
Mojácar Council and more than 87 local hospitality establishments are this summer taking part in the seventh edition of Ecovidrio’s #GreenFlagsMovement. With this campaign, the only specialised Collective Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme that manages selective collection on the ground and addresses the sustainability of glass packaging from the source, seeks, once again, to recognise the efforts of the local hospitality sector and the activism of coastal municipalities on circularity during the summer, especially regarding the proper management of their waste.
Hence Mojácar is competing with up to 45 municipalities in Andalucía with the aim of winning or retaining Ecovidrio’s “Green Flag for Sustainability,” which Mijas (Málaga) and La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz) already achieved in the last edition of this initiative.
In addition, this year Ecovidrio will recognise the three most responsible and committed hospitality establishments in Andalucía, evaluating their initiatives to improve waste recycling management, their energy and water consumption, and their commitment to sustainable purchasing, among other factors. In the last edition, the establishments recognised with this award were: La Surla (Tarifa, Cádiz), which shared the honour with El Farillo (Motril, Granada) and La Cueva (Ayamonte, Huelva).
In the words of Coral Rojas-Marcos, Deputy Director of Management for the Southern Region of Ecovidrio: “once again, we are very proud to celebrate another edition of the Green Flags Movement and to once again have the support of hospitality businesses and municipalities to address the significant increase in waste generation registered in coastal areas with high tourist traffic during the summer. I want to thank all the municipalities and the HORECA sector for their commitment to this competition, which promotes recycling and the sustainable development of our environment.”
A commitment to circularity on our coasts
At national level, this year more than 120 municipalities and over 12,000 restaurants, bars and beach bars will join the #GreenFlagsMovement. The participating municipalities in these regions will compete for one of the nine coveted Green Flags for Sustainability awarded by Ecovidrio, which will be distributed as follows: two in Andalucía, two in the Balearic Islands, two in Catalonia, two in the Valencian Community, and one in the Region of Murcia.
Through the commitment of the participating regions’ municipalities, Ecovidrio seeks to address the increase in the generation of glass packaging in coastal areas of our country during the summer season. During the summer, a third of all glass packaging in circulation is consumed, and close to 50% of single-use glass packaging waste comes from the hospitality sector. Therefore, their participation is essential to moving towards a more circular model with lower carbon emissions.
With the aim of helping participating municipalities and hospitality establishments with the selective separation of glass packaging, Ecovidrio will install a total of 200 new containers and provide them with nearly 1,300 wheeled bins for transporting their waste. As in previous years, it will also offer environmental and circular economy training to hospitality businesses, with 100 environmental educators visiting all participating bars, beach bars, and restaurants throughout the summer.
Furthermore, last year’s winning municipalities – Mijas and La Línea de la Concepción (Andalucía), Calella and Canet de Mar (Catalonia), Calpe and Peñíscola (Valencian Community), Capdepera and Formentera (Balearic Islands), and Mazarrón (Murcia Region) – will have the opportunity to retain their title, which distinguishes them as one of the leading municipalities in circularity.
To be in the running as a winner of a Green Flag, each municipality will have to meet a series of requirements based on criteria such as an increase in the volume of selective glass container collection compared to the previous year; registration of at least 50% participation in the campaign by local hospitality establishments; and promoting the campaign among the hospitality sector and promoting it to residents and visitors.
Additionally, as a new feature this year, it is worth highlighting that the municipality with the highest score in each autonomous community will be rewarded with a street-level environmental awareness campaign, aimed at strengthening citizen commitment to recycling and the circular economy.
Establishments recognised for their good environmental practices
As part of this campaign, Ecovidrio will also present awards to the nine coastal establishments most committed to sustainability, so all participating hospitality establishments will be looking to claim this recognition from last year’s winners:”
- Andalucía: Surla (Tarifa, Cádiz), El Farillo (Motril, Granada) and La Cueva (Ayamonte, Huelva).
- Catalonia: Catalina (Gavà, Barcelona) and Les Corones (Torroella de Montgrí, Girona).
- Valencianan Community: Baobab Soul Kitchen & Bar and the restaurant Rubén
- Balearic Islands: Can Mimosa (Eivissa).
- Murcia Region: Restaurant CP8 (Cabo de Palos, Cartagena).
In this new edition, the award-winning hospitality professionals will enjoy an exclusive masterclass and tasting menu hosted by chef Andrés Torres. Distinguished with a Michelin Star and a Michelin Green Star, Torres was the winner of the 2024 Basque Culinary World Prize and also holds one Repsol Sol. During the event, the prestigious chef will share his vision of sustainability in haute cuisine, guided by a philosophy of “making the most of what you receive and returning what is left over.” He champions local sustainability by growing ingredients directly at the restaurant and acquiring what cannot be grown from neighbouring collaborators.”
Positive impact on the environment of the Green Flags Movement
Thanks to the commitment of municipalities and hospitality businesses, in the last edition of the Green Flags Movement, more than 14,600 tons of glass containers were collected. Recycling these containers achieved the following:
- Preventing more than 8,400 tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, the equivalent of taking more than 4,000 cars off the road for a year.
- Saving 10,400 MWh of energy.
- Preventing the extraction of more than 17,000 tons of raw materials, equivalent to twice the weight of the Eiffel Tower.

Mojácar gets ready to relive its history with the 2026 Moors and Christians Festivities
From the 11th to the 14th of June, the municipality will once again be filled with parades, gunpowder, music and spectacular historical reenactments.
Mojácar is finalising preparations for celebrating another edition of its emblematic Moors and Christians Festival, one of the most anticipated events on the Almería festive calendar. From the 11th to the 14th of June, the municipality's streets will be transformed into a stage where history, tradition, and spectacle come together.
For four days, residents and visitors will be able to enjoy some of the most representative events of these festivities, such as the traditional musket fire, the spectacular horse parade, the dressage exhibition and medieval tournament, and the grand Moors & Christians parade, which will fill Mojácar with colour, music and excitement.
The festivities, deeply rooted in the local identity, attract thousands of people every year who find in Mojácar a unique celebration, capable of combining the value of tradition with a carefully crafted presentation in one of the Mediterranean’s most beautiful villages.
The Mojácar Mayor, Francisco García Cerdá, has invited residents and visitors to enjoy these festivities, which “are part of our essence and showcase to the world the cultural, historical and human richness of Mojácar.”
In addition, the Al-Mosaquer Moors and Christians General Association has announced the 6th National Photography Contest of the 2026 Mojácar Moors & Christians Festival, an initiative that seeks to capture the best moments of the celebration. The contest, open to participants from all over Spain, will accept photographs taken during the festivities from the 15th of June to the 15th of September and will give out prizes of 200 euros in each of its four categories: Moorish theme, Christian theme, black and white, and open theme. The selected images will form part of future exhibitions and promotional activities for the festivities.
With an extensive programme of activities and significant organisational and security measures in place, Mojácar is getting ready to experience four unforgettable days in which history will come alive once again next to the sea.
As a complement to the festivities, Mojácar Council is reinforcing the urban bus service during the busiest days. The service will extend its hours to 3.30am on Thursday 11th of June, and until 6am on the early mornings of Friday 12th of June and Saturday 13th of June, making getting between Mojácar Pueblo and the beach area easier and promoting more comfortable and safe mobility for residents and visitors. On Sunday 14th of June, the regular timetable will remain in effect, with additional services at peak times.
Among the main novelties of this edition are the celebration of the 1st Mojácar History and Archaeology Conference and the establishment of Town Day.
Hoppy launches its new shared electric bike service in Mojácar
Hoppy launches a shared electric bicycle service in Mojácar with 200 bikes. The first 120 bikes are available from Monday 8th of June, and the service includes geofencing, regulated parking, and technological measures to promote coexistence and the orderly use of public spaces.
Mojácar, 8th of June, 2026. Hoppy has this Monday launched its new shared electric bike service in Mojácar, a commitment to more sustainable, efficient and connected urban mobility, that will reach 200 electric bikes distributed throughout the town through a phased rollout over the next month.
The service begins operations with 120 bikes available starting today, while the remaining units will be incorporated gradually in different phases, allowing for the optimisation of territorial coverage, operational rebalancing, and the adaptation of the system to actual user demand.
The implementation of the service aims to offer a flexible, accessible, and complementary mobility alternative to public transport, particularly reinforcing last-mile travel, that is, those routes connecting stations, interchanges, urban centres, neighbourhoods, or areas of economic activity with citizens' final destinations.
The model promoted by Hoppy puts particular emphasis on intermodality, facilitating the use of electric bikess as a natural complement to other means of transport and contributing to reducing private vehicle use, the associated emissions, and urban congestion.
“Mojácar is a town with enormous potential for establishing more sustainable, connected, and efficient mobility models. We want to contribute to making getting around the town easier and more accessible, strengthening the connection between neighbourhoods, amenities, commercial areas, and transport hubs, always with a focus on coexistence and respect for public spaces,” commented Jacob Hammerstein, the company's Director of Public Affairs.
A technology-based system to guarantee order and coexistence
Hoppy's service incorporates a geofencing system, a digital technology – that together with vehicles’ geolocation - virtually delimits bicycle use in different areas of the town with the aim of guaranteeing safety, urban order, and coexistence between pedestrians, cyclists, and other users of public roads.
Through this technology, the system establishes mandatory parking points, so that trips can only end in designated and digitally delimited areas. This measure prevents disorderly parking and promotes responsible use of common space.
In addition, the system incorporates reduced speed zones and no-circulation zones, especially in certain pedestrian areas or areas of high urban sensitivity, where the bike will automatically reduce its speed or will be unable to operate at all.
“Technological innovation only makes sense if it helps improve urban life. We have designed a system that prioritises public order, safety, and respect for pedestrians and residents, incorporating tools that allow for responsible use of the service and harmonious integration into the town,” added Hammerstein.
How the service works
The system will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will be available to users aged 18 and over.
To use the bikes, users must download the Hoppy Mobility mobile app, available on both the App Store de Apple and Google Play, register, and locate an available bike using the integrated map.
Unlocking is simple: just scan the QR code located on the bike using your mobile phone.
At the end of the ride, the user must park the bicycle correctly within one of the geofenced authorised areas, which will also be physically indicated by unobtrusive horizontal markings on the ground. The trip can only be ended within these designated points, and a photograph of the correctly parked bike will be required to validate the service completion, hence reinforcing responsible use and the proper use of public space.
Territorial coverage, operational efficiency and sustainability
The progressive rollout of the fleet will ensure a capillary network of availability throughout Mojácar, facilitating coverage of different neighbourhoods, residential areas, commercial zones, university areas, and other areas of economic activity.
The service also incorporates operational rebalancing mechanisms, through which Hoppy will redistribute bikes across different areas to ensure a balanced supply, improve availability and respond efficiently to demand patterns.
From an environmental perspective, the system aims to contribute to the reduction of polluting emissions, the reduction of motorised traffic and the improvement of air quality, promoting low-emission urban travel and reinforcing more sustainable mobility habits.
Additionally, Hoppy highlights this model’s ability to generate territorial cohesion, bringing mobility opportunities closer to different parts of the town and facilitating better connections between neighbourhoods, public facilities, local businesses and areas of activity.

Renowned Almerian painter Jover brings his universe of "Nymphs" to the Mojácar Museum
The artist is exhibiting his celebrated work in coloured Indian ink, an innovative take on Surrealism-Abstract that has been shown in international venues such as the Louvre Museum in Paris.
The exhibition can be visited from the 22nd of May to the 15th of June, Monday to Friday, from 9.30am to 1.30pm in the Mojácar Museum's art gallery.
MOJÁCAR – The Mojácar Museum is hosting a solo exhibition by the painter Juan Ramón Jover Sánchez, known artistically as Jover. The Almerian artist, originally from the Campo de Níjar region, is presenting a carefully curated selection of his most representative works from his acclaimed NYMPHS series.
With a lengthy career spanning more than 120 exhibitions in countries such as the US (New York), France, Portugal and Belgium, Jover stands out on the contemporary art scene for his self-taught background and his constant experimental pursuit. After years dedicated to oil on canvas, the painter is currently immersed in a highly personal and innovative technique: coloured Indian ink.
Through this medium, the artist brings his Surrealist-Abstract vision to life. Jover's "Nymphs" are presented as ethereal and dreamlike compositions filled with a subtle chromatic balance. As mythological figures of an invisible nature, the painter deliberately plays with abstract forms so that it is the viewer's own imagination that, when contemplating the painting, completes the work, transforming it into suggestive feminine silhouettes.
The Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García Cerdá, is delighted to have this art exhibition in the municipality, which further strengthens Mojácar’s close ties to art and culture.
This unique perspective and creative maturity have led to his work being acquired by multinationals such as the Swiss firm Syngenta and the American company VFM (whose silkscreen prints made it to the Spanish Royal Household), as well as having two of his works exhibited at the renowned Louvre Museum.
With this new cultural event, Mojácar becomes the epicentre of an interactive visual experience where colour, poetry, and the free interpretation of art come together.

Mojácar has today taken a historic step in its consolidation as a top-level tourist destination on officially receiving the Bike Territory certification, a prestigious seal awarded by the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC). This recognition places the municipality at the forefront of national cycle tourism, rewarding its decades-long track record as an undisputed leader and pioneer in the sports tourism sector.
The RFEC project awards the Bike Territory certificate to those entities and destinations that exemplarily combine their efforts to offer promotional activities, infrastructure improvements and specific services for the promotion of cycling and bicycle use. In this regard, the municipality has earned the award in the ‘Bike Territory Tourism’ category, aimed at regions that are firmly committed to promoting bicycle tourism.
A highly specialised business sector
The success of this certification is not only institutional, but also a reflection of the local private sector’s high level of specialisation and commitment. At the ceremony held on Thursday 28th of May, the seals were presented both to the Mojácar destination and to the first local businesses that have successfully passed the rigorous RFEC audits, gaining the ‘Bike Territory Businesse’ seal.
The first five certified companies are Hotel Marina Playa (Servigroup), Hotel Oasis Tropical (Best Hotels), Hotel El Puntazo, Bar San Pedro, and Mojácar Cycling Holidays.

The Local Council and businesses actively contribute to the Promotion of the Mojácar destination as the perfect place for cycling, at both the professional and amateur level.

The Mayor of Mojácar expressed his utmost satisfaction during the award ceremony, emphasizing that this milestone was a priority goal for the municipality. This achievement fits directly within ‘Mojácar Green Cycling’,’ the ambitious local project that combines specialisation in cycling, sustainability, and sports tourism with low environmental impact.
‘Mojácar Green Cycling’ is one of the strategic initiatives included in the Mojácar Destination Sustainable Development Plan, ensuring balanced tourism growth that respects the natural environment and with a high added value for the local economy by completely breaking the cycle of seasonality.
By obtaining the Bike Territory seals, Mojácar not only celebrates its history linked to cycling but is also pedalling steadily toward a sustainable and healthy future.
