Mojácar celebrates the 10th anniversary of its QR Audio Guides with more than 5000 visits in 2024

Mojácar Council is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the implementation of its QR audio guides, an innovative initiative that has transformed the way visitors discover the rich history and cultural heritage of the municipality.

Since its launch in March 2014, this tool has proven to be a resounding success, reaching more than 5,200 visits in 2024 so far this year, with a notable increase from May to July.
Among the most popular audio guides, the one on the Mojácar origin of Walt Disney stands out, its QR code having been scanned more than 1,222 times, making it the most requested content by tourists. In total, this resource has generated 3,773 events between views, audio and photo downloads, reflecting the widespread interest in this curious local legend.
Other points of interest, such as the old City Gate and the Santa María Church, have received 990 visits, closely followed by the legend of “Mariquita la Posá”, with around 900 views. The Public Fountain, Plaza Nueva Viewpoint and the Castle Viewpoint audio guides are also among the most explored places by tourists.
The Mayor of Mojácar, Fran García, underlines the importance of this project for the tourist promotion of the municipality: “Ten years ago we backed new technologies as a way of enhancing the value of our heritage, and the results have exceeded our expectations. The audio guides have not only allowed visitors to learn about our history in a more accessible and attractive way, but they have also provided us with valuable data to continue improving the tourist experience of Mojácar.”
The QR audio guide system, available in four languages, allows visitors to easily access detailed information about the main monuments and local legends while going around the old town. In addition, the Mojácar Council Tourism Department has a platform that provides real-time data on the use of these audio guides, including statistics on visits, events and downloads.
Mojácar Council has also taken a further step towards tourism digitalisation, by incorporating augmented reality technologies and 360-degree images in 2022, offering an even more immersive experience. This progress has been possible thanks to the support of the Junta de Andalucía Regional Tourism Ministry as part of the plan to implement new technologies in tourist resources.
With this 10th anniversary, Mojácar reaffirms its position as a pioneer destination in tourism digitalisation, offering its visitors a unique informative and technological experience.
