Mojácar holds a celebration for its Patron Saint la Virgen del Rosario

On Sunday October 6th, the festivities begin to honour Mojácar’s Patron Saint, La Virgen del Rosario, with the new idea of having a Midday Fair this year around the Fuente, livened up with music and dancing with the “Juaraginos” Charanga Band.

At 5 p.m. the coloured tapes will be gathered up for the traditional ribbon races at 5.30 p.m. which for this particular fiesta will include those participants who are either married, separated and divorced.
These horseback ribbon runs have been held in Mojácar since time immemorial and many Spanish towns have kept this fun tradition alive from old the jousts and fairs in the Middle Ages. To keep the custom going, Mojácar Council even offers free elementary riding lessons to those who are interested in taking part in events and local fiestas.
Monday the 7th is a local holiday in Mojácar and, there will be a Holy Mass in the Parish Church with singing by Alina and a piano.
accompaniment. This will be followed by a procession with the image of the Virgin carried through the streets of the Old Town accompanied by local officials and Church followed by the Town Band.
Later at 2 p.m. Mojácar Council have organized a well-deserved meal with music and dancing for its senior residents at the Hotel Puntazo. The weekend will wind up with a with a free film show for the children at 7.30 p.m. at the Centro de Usos Múltiples.
