Mojácar successfully bring to a close the first edition of the SentArte Artistic Route
Mojácar Council has celebrated the closing act of the first edition of the SentArte project, an innovative artistic initiative that has brought together art, tourism and the local area through the decoration of urban benches located in little-known and especially beautiful spots in the municipality.
During the ceremony, diplomas were presented to the participating artists, recognising their creativity and the value of their contributions. This route has made it possible to look around Mojácar from a new perspective, moving away from the more usual spots to invite the discovery of peaceful and unique landscapes through art.
The locations of the benches and their creators are:
- The aerials – Puerto Marina by Nikki Freespirit Movement and Pamen Merchante
- Piedra Villazar by Ángel Rodríguez Riaño
- Raspejos by Ángeles Gaitán Orden
- Lighthouse by María del Mar Gilar Martínez
- Trancos by Catalina San Román Muñoz
- Observatory by Jorge Fraser, Matt Asaro, and Álvaro Concepción Álvarez
Each of these benches makes up part of an artistic route where art invites you to pause, contemplate and reconnect with the environment.
“SentArte is an invitation to experience Mojácar in a different way. We want residents and visitors to rediscover our landscapes through pause, art and sensitivity. We believe in culture as a tool for social transformation and in creativity as a driver of local development”, commented Mojácar Mayor Francisco García.
Tourism Councillor, María Gracia Alarcón, added: “This project allows us to highlight unique corners of Mojácar that often go unnoticed. We want art to serve as a guide for discovering these small scenic treasures that we have and, at the same time, support and showcase the talent of our local artists.”
The project was promoted by the Culture and Tourism departments as a competition open to artists from different disciplines. Participants had to create benches with original and long-lasting designs, adapted to their surroundings, in this way turning street furniture into artistic and contemplative elements.
With SentArte, Mojácar reaffirms its commitment to a more creative, sensitive, and sustainable form of tourism. And this first edition is just the beginning.
The Local Council is already working on a future call to continue expanding this route that invites you to sit, observe and experience Mojácar through art.
