Mojácar Council, in collaboration with the Almería Provincial Council, has taken a firm and bold step toward full inclusion with the launch of an exclusive assisted bathing service for people with reduced mobility, a pioneering resource in the Levante region of Almería that makes the municipality a benchmark for true accessibility on the coast.

This new service, active every day from 9am to 5pm, is provided by specialised monitors whose role is to accompany and assist people with reduced mobility from their arrival at the beach, during their access to the water, while they are swimming, and until they rest in designated shaded and adapted areas.

The Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García, underlined the importance of this initiative as part of the town model the municipality wants to build: “Mojácar is committed to tourism for everyone. This measure goes far beyond physical accessibility: we are talking about offering personalised, humane and professional assistance so that no one is left without enjoying the sea due to a lack of support.”

The Tourism Councillor, María Gracia Alarcón, highlighted the social focus of this new service and its connection with the municipality’s responsible tourism strategy: “This exclusive assisted bathing service makes a difference. We are not only adapting our beaches, but we are also providing monitors to assist those most in need. We are committed to humane, dignified and accessible tourism, and we will continue working in that direction.”

This service was presented at the official FAAM (Almería Federation of Associations for People with Disabilities) start-of-season event, which chose the municipality as an example of good practices in accessible tourism. The collaboration with FAAM has been key for the design of this service, which responds to the real needs of the collective and aligns with universal accessibility guidelines.

The initiative has all the necessary resources:

🔹 Monitors for personal assistance

🔹 Adapted showers and toilets

🔹 Amphibious chairs

🔹 Accessible walkways

🔹 Adapted and safe shaded areas

Hence Mojácar continues to consolidate a tourism model that puts people at the centre and that responds to the values of inclusion, dignity and social responsibility.
