Mojácar celebrates San Isidro and encourages Mojácar locals to wear regional costume
On Sunday 18th of May, Mojácar will enjoy one of its most traditional fiestas with the celebration of San Isidro (Saint Isidore), patron saint of farmers. The celebration will take place in the area around The Fountain, an emblematic area of the municipality that every year becomes a gathering point for local residents, visitors and entire families who take part in this event with the agricultural and cultural roots of the locality.
The programme will start at 1pm with the blessing of San Isidro, in a ceremony filled with symbolism and devotion. At 2pm there will be the midday fair, with entertainment by the charanga band Armando Jaelo, and at 6pm the group La Espartera will give a live concert to close with music and a good atmosphere.
The Mayor of Mojácar, Fran García, underlined the importance of keeping local traditions alive: “San Isidro is a festivity that speaks of our roots, of our link to the land and of the importance of sharing and celebrating it in company…. We want Mojácar to continue being a place where tradition and joy go hand in hand.”
Festivities Councillor, Pascual Artero, has invited all members of the public to take part: “It is a day designed to be enjoyed as a family, with music, gastronomy and a very welcoming atmosphere. We especially encourage Mojácar women to wear traditional costume, as they have always done, and everyone to join in the events to continue cherishing our customs”.
The Local Council is calling for participation and reminding everyone that this festivity is not only an expression of local identity, but also an opportunity to come together, enjoy the surroundings of The Fountain and pass on these traditions to the new generations.
