A full house for Mojácar´s Dames in Spain Christmas Charity fair and carol concert.

Christmas came early once again to Mojácar last week, when the town’s Dames in Spain association held their traditional Christmas carol concert and charity fair, packing the venue with standing room only..

The 3rd Age Salon at the Centro de Usos Múltiples was once again provided by Mojácar Council, which has become the stage for this popular event that brings together different cultures and nationalities, united by solidarity and Christmas traditions. Festive music, carols and stories, with a chance to meet up with friends on a day where the Dames and other organisations sell all kinds of goods in order to raise funds. Asprodalba and its Director, Ignacio Martín Cuadrado, was joined by some of his students on their stall selling crafts made by school. A team from MACS was also there, a well-known Association that carries out such commendable support work with those suffering from cancer as well as their families.
Of course, there is always the big raffle that everyone looks forward to, which had many fantastic prizes donated by local businesses. This year the star prize was a magnificent television, courtesy of this year’s event sponsor EuroWeekly News, who also work closely with the Dames in Spain on their charity projects.

The Mojácar Town Band took to the stage with a medley of well-known Spanish and British carols followed later by a round of hits from the popular singers, Tony Justice and Lady Ellen.

Association President, Carol Threlfall, presented the event along with Mojácar Councilor María Luisa Pérez, giving thanks to the many people who had come along to give their support. The Dames also thanked Mojácar’s Mayor, Rosmari Cano, as well as María Luisa for coming along to the concert every year, as well as collaborating with their initiatives to promote the much appreciated work they do in the area.

Dames in Spain Mojácar, currently has over 60 members who are mostly British women living in the town and, for three decades they have dedicated their time to raise funds that are distributed amongst deserving charities and causes. Longstanding member, Ann Marshal added that, although the road that the Dames have travelled over the years has seen many changes, the spirit and enthusiasm remains the same as it did with the first founders.
