María Flores Fernández winner of the Mojácar Saint Augustine 2023 festivities poster competition.
The winning poster in the Posters Competition organised by the local authority has been presented in the Mojácar Council Plenary Hall and will be the image of the locality’s 2023 patron saint festivities in honour of Saint Augustine.
Twelve works were presented in this competition, organised through the Festivities Department, from which the organising jury selected three, automatically becoming the finalists of this edition.
The winner was chosen through social media and by popular vote. The poster getting the most votes was the work presented by María Flores Fernández, author of the work which got the most support and which is therefore the competition winner.
María Flores Fernández, 18-years old and Mojácar born and a Mojaquera in her heart, actively participates in all the activities programmed in the municipality, as well as in the cultural offers organised. She’s a member of the Municipal Music Band as a saxophonist and next term she will attend the Superior Design School in Murcia to study graphic design, her great passion.
With this 2023 festivities poster María Flores has tried to combine the traditional and the modern. She confesses to being a lover and defender of maintaining traditions so that these much-loved days do not lose their essence and grandparents, parents and children can together relive the emotions of such important dates, but she has also wanted to give a nod to the youngest: the main idea is that “the customs grow and evolve without losing their essence or their soul.”
The winning work has been made with digital technique, having achieved great strength in the composition and in the clarity of its message.
Attending the official presentation were the Mojácar Mayor, Francisco García Cerdá, and the Festivities Councillor, Jesús Montoya, who posed with what will be the image of this 2023 edition, which has already gone to print, and which will be able to be admired on the posters distributed throughout the municipality and in the festivities book.
Both the Mojácar Mayor and the Festivities Councillor wanted to thank all the authors of the works presented for their participation in this municipal competition, highlighting the high quality of them all, “making the selection of the three finalists very difficult for the jury”, as the locality’s Mayor, Francisco García Cerdá stated.
