Mojácar council opens public skate park.
Mojácar Council recently completed a new 600 m2 Skate Park next to the town´s football ground, with popular challenging features that are well-known by enthusiasts including a mini-ramp, a wave, funboxes, pyramids, slides and an ollie-box.
The actual skating area is 235 m2 and is made from grey quartz on a concrete base with the sliding surfaces formed by high density HPI sheets. The whole facility has marked skate lines with illumination and is safely enclosed. The Park has good access, with other sports facilities nearby, so is an ideal place for young people to meet up and practice this popular sport.
The actual skateboard originated in Malibu, in the USA in the 60´s and soon became a very popular sporting pastime among young people, one which is today practised all over the world as well as forming focal points for youngsters to socialize.
The winning tender for the recent works was 140,561 Euros and, the whole project was drawn up by Almería Provincial Council´s team of technical architects to comply with all the necessary technical and administrative regulations.
Ana García, Mojácar´s Councillor for Sports, said how pleased she, along with her Department and Government Team were with the results of the completed project, which has been on the drawing board for some time. The Park is one of the Council´s projects to offer the youngest and, most energetic sector of the community the town, a choice of sports and leisure activities.
