Mojácar Council presents Medals to all their Sports School Students.
Mojácar´s football ground was recently the venue for the end of year closing event held by the town´s Sports School.
As every year, all the students from the numerous classes on offer gathered with friends and family to receive their individual sports medal of merit which are presented annually by Mojácar’s Councillors in recognition of their efforts and enthusiasm,
During this academic year, Mojácar`s Sports School has enrolled 350 students, divided between the disciplines of football (most numerous with 148 youngsters of all levels), rhythmic gymnastics, pre-sports games for the little ones, karate, padel and senior exercise classes.
The karate students particularly deserve a special mention, as they recently all took their places on the winners´ podium in Almería. Also, due to the hard work of the rhythmic gymnastics students this year, they are now set to compete with other teams in the area.
For these sports lovers of all ages, this open air gathering formally brings the classes to an end for another year, with a chance to swap experiences and ideas as well as hear about new courses in the pipeline. Also, not to be missed, was a performance of a modern routine by the senior gym class ladies, which as usual received resounding applause. To add some excitement to the event for the little ones, inflatables and fun games had been organised to keep them entertained and occupied.
Mojácar’s Councillor for Sports, Ana García, said how encouraged she was by the all the students´ progress as well as the sportsmanship shown by everyone, including the teachers who had also generated a great atmosphere within the groups. She also stressed how important sport and exercise is in promoting a healthy lifestyle at any age and, the positive influence it has on young people in instilling values of teamwork and commitment whilst still having fun.
The number of registered students has grown for each new course and Anna hopes that this trend will continue in the forthcoming academic year. She plans to add some new sports disciplines to the programme to give the town an even wider choice, which she hopes will have a good response from Mojaqueros.
For the time being, although everyone is now set to enjoy the summer and a well-deserved break, the students are still looking forward to getting back together for their next round of courses in the Autumn.
