Mojácar´s award winning beaches

Two Blue Flags can currently be seen flying along Mojácar’s seafront, awards that have been handed out by the European Foundation for Environmental Education since 1987, but only once their rigid strict set of rules for beach conditions have been met.

As well as these flags, positioned at Venta del Bancal and Marina de la Torre, the town also boasts 7 beaches that have been granted Spain’s Tourism SICTED Quality Award.
The Mayor, Rosmari Cano, was at the official flag raising ceremony, along with members of her Government Team, the lifeguards and, directors of some of the main hotels.

Mojácar has 17 kilometres of magnificent coastline and in addition to the better known beaches, there are some beautiful protected small beaches away from the town such as Sombrerico and Granatilla, which do not have services but do offer the tranquil charm of a more natural setting. The larger beaches, on the other hand, have both the Local Police and a lifeguard service on hand during the summer season to deal with any emergencies, first aid as well as general enquiries.

Each day, the lifeguards are responsible for displaying the coloured flags that indicate the current sea safety level and, they have the manpower and specialized equipment in place to deal with rescue situations. Facilities at their disposal include defibrillators, oxygen, amphibious bathing chairs for those with disabilities and a range of medical equipment, along with an ambulance service nearby. In addition, they have all-terrain vehicles, sea motors and zodiac boats to use in any emergencies.
The weekends will see the popular “Junior Rescuer” programme offered again, with the lifeguards organizing some fun, but very educational rescue information and drills for children and their parents, as well as teaching how to perform some basic resuscitation techniques.

With everything in place to guarantee a great time at the beach, there are also a host of other things to fill in leisure time in Mojácar, including the wide range of sports and entertainment on offer or by simply taking in the local culture and traditions.
